Pullers Reveal Their Charitable Side at Hillsboro Brownstown, Indiana-August 11th, 2014: Typically the focus in our press releases is to highlight an upcoming event. This time it’s an opportunity to put the spotlight on our pullers and a side of them that isn’t normally celebrated.

At the 2014 Hillsboro Charity Pull this past weekend in Hillsboro, Wisconsin, event promoter Don Slama took time at Fridays’ drivers meeting (shown in photo) to share the story of one of the many people who the pull committee sought to positively affect with the proceeds of the pull. Kerri Minett’s story of a cancer diagnosis in 2011, being cancer-free after treatment, and relapsing into Stage IV cancer in June of this year touched the hearts of many around her, notably the pull’s charity committee.

Slama challenged the hundred or so pullers in the room to give a special donation to Kerri as the Stage IV diagnosis indicated that her days with us would be few. In the spirit of helping Kerri realize some her last wishes, pullers gave $6000 to meet that need. Some gave immediately and placed money into the donation box; others gave of their winnings. A family who benefited from the Hillsboro charity efforts in 2013 put back in $1000 for Kerri’s wishes. It was an unprecedented group effort by the pullers and their families at the Hillsboro event.

As the pull wound down at 11pm Saturday evening, Kerri Minett passed away. Her family has chosen to “pay it forward” and have asked Slama and the committee to offer another person in their midst opportunities Kerri was unable to realize. We here at the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League offer our condolences to the Minett family for their loss. We want to offer our appreciation to Don Slama and the Hillsboro Charity Pull committee for their diligent work in helping those in need in their community. We also want to recognize our pullers for their own charitable efforts, your efforts off the track are to be commended.
