green streak

At the end of the 2010 pulling season, on the heels of winning their third consecutive Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League Champions Tour title, the Boyds of Washington, Indiana decided to slow down in the sport. Two of the three Premier Crop Insurance Pro Stock Tractors that they campaigned were sold to a fellow competitor, and the family began to focus on their continually growing business. The 2011 season saw Steve Boyd bring his Lucas Oil sponsored Green Streak out just a few times, as he remained true to his word of slowing down. As the winter of 2011 and 2012 came around, Steve and his wife Karen began to discuss the idea of traveling more and actually ventured to Florida to meet with a realtor about a few listed properties. However, the glaring idea in their minds throughout the visit was that it simply wasn't them.

neil gettinger

After a lifetime spent in the saddle of a pulling tractor, Neil Gettinger couldn't stop replaying the years of conversations with his friends discussing the ease of maintenance on a MAC Trailer Unlimited Super Stock as opposed to the Diesel Super Stock he had campaigned for years.  After pondering the step for a while, Neil and his son Loren (Bud) made the tough decision to follow their hearts out of their comfort zone and into the unknown.  For their part in getting started they purchased a proven winner in the form of Ken Measel's "Mining for Dollars" Case, which had seen great success in the class over the previous years.

Midnight Raider

When the chips were totaled for the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League Champions Tour, four former champions had reclaimed their titles in each of their respective classes.  What was even more unique was that all four of our former Champions were back to back winners with the Champions Tour in 2009 and 2010, before staking claim to the title in 2012.  Jim Bosch of West Olive, Michigan reclaimed his title with the help of his Steve Schmidt Racing Engine, Daniel Bosch Racing Chassis, and a new set of tires from Nichols Precision Tire Cutting.    After a rain out in Saluda cost the class a hook, Jim found his way into the top ten on Saturday night and two events later claimed his first win of the season in Tampico, Indiana.  With Tampico being just the third event on the tour, it seemed as if Bosch and his “Midnight Raider” were already in peak form.

But folks, I am not the one who needs to stand up — you are.  In my opinion, the response of many large farm organizations to the attacks from HSUS and others has been a bit on the timid side. We have relied on facts, science, and engaging in “dialogues” on food and agriculture issues.  Meanwhile, those on the other side have resorted to lawsuits, intimidation, voter referendums, misleading television commercials, and even lobbying and legislation.  There has emerged, however, an organization that is taking a much more aggressive and effective strategy when dealing with anti-agriculture activist groups.
