Badger State Has Big Bounce Back to Start 2021 Season!

Pulling For Hope Benefit Pull Highlights the Month of June

Charlestown, IN (July 6th, 2021) –The Badger State Tractor Pullers (BSTP) officially hit the track after the 2020 season was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. All three of our events for the month of June had big crowds and action packed pulling! Right at the center of all the action was the Pulling For Hope: benefiting the American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison, WI.

With the unknowns of Covid-19 restrictions before the start of the season, for the first time in its 18-year history, the event was moved to the Sauk County Fairgrounds in Baraboo, just 15 miles north of the traditional Sauk Prairie FFA Alumni Park in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin. We cannot thank the Sauk County Fair Board enough, who jumped headfirst into this event once the decision was made. With the move to a bigger venue, meant all ten BSTP classes could participate once again. Another first for the event was being able to run two tracks. With 11 total classes, with the addition of the Tri County Pullers 1,950 open mini rod, we wanted to keep the pulling going as fast as possible.

Pulling For Hope also allowed us to debut our new video board for the 2021 season. Planned to be debuted during 2020, it was the first time our event got to feature live video and replay on the 6x12 ft portable board. We are very excited to be able to enhance our shows, not only during the event, but bring a better presence for our sponsors.

While this event seen many firsts, when it was time to introduce our family for the event, Travis & Tierney Wileman, a name that has been around pulling for many years, especially here in the Badger State, tragically lost they newborn son earlier this year. Not only were they the feature family, the Wileman family & friends came together to put their brand-new Pro Stock together in, what has to be a record, 22 days to be able to compete at the event, and knowing the Pro Stocks were the Calcutta class. Tierney Wileman had so much grace & composure to tell their story to a standing room only crowd of over 3,500 people. The Pro Stock class raised over 17,000 dollars alone for the Calcutta auction. During Travis’s pull, everyone got up on their feet, and with all the emotions and not knowing if the tractor would get down the track, Travis would lay down pull good enough for second place, just behind another brand-new John Deere Pro Stock out of the Coates stable. Ryan Coates bought their tractor, which would end up winning the class, and donated all their share back to the AFCH.

It truly was one of those special nights in pulling. 100 percent of the proceeds goes toward the AFCH. The pullers donated their purse money, all the gate admissions, and concession proceeds go back to the children hospital. We cannot thank enough of our local sponsors who continue to support this great event. We have to thank our Gold Sponsors; Triangle Tool Corporation and Middleton Machine. All the hard work the Sauk County Fair Board put into this event, and Kellie & Greg Elsing for spear heading this event since its beginning.

We can announce the 2022 Pulling For Hope event will be back at the Sauk County Fairgrounds in Baraboo. We will also be expanding the seating area for next year, as well.

If you were unable to attend, but still like to get involved, BSTP competitors & officials will be selling raffle tickets again this year. They are $100 each with only 1000 tickets sold. Half of the raffle will go back to the AFCH, first place prize will be $25,000; second place prize $15,000; and third place prize $10,000. The drawing will take place at our year end banquet held at the Wilderness Resort in the Wisconsin Dells. You do not need to be present to win. We will also have our official donation made to Lori Schultz, from the AFCH, for our year end total raised.
