Long, Slama Double Up at GALOT Mule City 300
Charlestown, IN (June 7th, 2022) – The 2022 pulling season for the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League launched on June 3rd and 4th at one of the premier facilities in the nation, the GALOT Motorsports Park in Benson, North Carolina with the GALOT Mule City 300. Six premier Champions Tour and Silver Series classes dueled it out on the twin-tracks of GMP with a venerable group of Decision Maker sleds tasked to keep competitors in check.
The Friday session opened with two of the sports’ most powerful classes, the Big River Steel Super Modified Tractors and Unlimited Super Stock Tractors. In the Super Modified Tractor division Ricky Long closed out the class of five with an impressive 336+ blast for the win on the MAVTV machine while in the Unlimited Super Stock ranks the perennially-tough Josh Blackbourn picked up the win on the Cummins-based Extremely Armed and Dangerous CaseIH. Following up two of the heaviest and most powerful classes was the pocket-size powerhouse Summit Racing Mini Rods competing alongside Light Pro Stock Tractors running for Silver Series accolades. Jordan Nelson, making a transition from his normal Super Modified Two Wheel Drive exploits scored the win in his first competition pass ever in Mini Rod piloting the Loud and Mini machine out of the Simon Motorsports camp. Matt Smith and the old-school 9700-series Ford named Fast Forward emerged as the winners in Light Pro, heading off the advances of 15 other competitors. Finishing out the evening at GMP were two of the most competitive Champions Tour classes, Pro Modified Four Wheel Drive Truck and Super Farm Tractor with impressive numbers and any entrant capable of the win. Pro Mod FWD saw Steve Clem and his Ratical Chevrolet getting the nod in a class of 19 entries while past Super Farm class champion Don Slama and the Fast and Furious Deere earned the win on the last hook of the class.
Pullers and fans returned in droves for the second and final session at GMP on June 4th and their expectations for a great show were fulfilled. Don Slama returned to the winners’ circle in Super Farm on Saturday evening in one of the session opening classes while Bruce Slagh and the Show No Mercy machine were winners in the Summit Racing Mini Rod in the other session-opener. Ricky Long doubled up on the powerhouse MAVTV machine, making a dominant blast past 377 feet for the Big River Steel Super Modified Tractor win.The Unlimited Super Stock win came on an amazing late hook by former class champion Jeff Hirt and the Runnin’ Bare CaseIH. Closing out the evening’s classes were Light Pro Stock and Pro Mod FWD; Ron Beasley and the Farmall Fever 66-Series IH kept the first place money in Light Pro at home in North Carolina on the first hook of his class while Peyton Davis and the Punisher Chevy took the Pro Mod win in dramatic fashion, where Davis leapt past the class leading distance of Charlie Hinds and the Runnin’ Wild Ford on the next-to-last pass of competition and held off the best efforts of Graham Young and the Renegade Dodge who finished second on the last hook.
The pulling season is already full throttle and a pair of classes from the GALOT Mule City 300 have another round of action this coming weekend. Super Farm Tractors and Summit Racing Mini Rods will compete in Farley, Iowa at the Farley Raceway 300 on June 10th and 11th. Unlimited Super Stocks and Pro Mod FWDs will be in action at the Mackville Nationals in Mackville, Wisconsin on June 17th and 18th, and Big River Steel Super Modified Tractors take a break until America’s Pull in Henry, Illinois on July 16th. Silver Series Light Pro Stocks return to battle on July 9th at the all-new Dirt Oval 66 Pull in Joliet, Illinois.
